World MasterCard Fashion Week: Day 3

Categories: Fashion

It was another action packed day at World MasterCard Fashion Week with six shows on Day 3 in the tents. Hard to believe we’re past the half way point now, but it’s been an amazing fashion adventure so far and I’m looking forward to the last two days!

Day 3 kicked off at 4pm with MATIS, the ready to wear SS’13 collection from Lucian Matis. I really enjoyed this feminine and colourful spring show, titled Shield, presenting gunmetal gray and sequined “armour” contrasted by feminine shapes and silky fabrics.

Perfectly tailored spring short suits and the use of peplums on jackets and dresses were tres-chic as well as the flowing bohemian floral dresses. Definitely got me warmed up for his high-end show later! Here are a few of my favourite looks:

I ducked out for a Swarovski event at 5pm so unfortunately I missed the Whitney Linen show, but from what I heard, the debut couture collection from this lifestyle brand was a success!

Inspired by the cobbled streets and fields in the south of France as well as the white sands and turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

The show featured structured statement pieces that pushed the boundaries of what’s traditionally expected from linen and included some killer gowns with glamourous trains!

I made it back in time to catch the next show from Lucian Matis on the larger runway featuring his high-end collection. Yet another show simply drenched in stunning colours, these designs had a distinctly Moroccan influence. Mosaic tile prints in bold reds and mustards used for structured pant suits, form-fitting dresses and full skirts.

Half way through the show the designer switched gears with crocodile embossed leather molded in to stiff tailored separates and one very dramatic black ball gown that had those in the front row pretty excited! I really enjoyed the big hair and the over-sized 80′s hoop earrings wrapped in the same fabrics. Here are the highlights:

Korhani Home was next with their fourth season as the only home decor designer on the World MasterCard Fashion Week runway. I always look forward to their unique “carpet couture” designs with no boundaries! The spring collection is vibrant and glamourous with delicate patterns inspired by vintage lace designs and loud tropical prints.

Models walked the catwalk in everything from full skirts made of indoor area rugs to reversible outdoor rugs styled into dresses inspired by the roaring 20′s. In addition to catching a glimpse into home decor trends for 2013, guests enjoyed the show which included flapper-esque dance moves and group poses at the end of the runway. Such a fun show! Here are my favourite creative looks:

Known for outerwear designs that balance hard and soft elements, Mackage was up next with an incredible SS’13 show. This energetic collection pops with neon yellow, light blue and mint green, in both leathers and nylons, inspired by today’s cool street styles.

The moto vest is bound to become the latest leather trend for spring, while the classic trench gets an update with leather contrast sleeves. I love the over-sized and waterfall lapels and and I think I gasped out loud when I saw the ombré leather! Here are my favourite styles:

Last but certainly not least, the highly anticipated Joe Fresh show hit the runway. The line up for tickets was out the door and around the corner for this wearable and affordable line from fashion powerhouse Joe Mimran. Notably void of Joe’s trademark bold colours, this collection makes a powerful black and white statement for spring.

Staying true to the modern sportswear and refined minimalism that he’s known for, Joe incorporated exciting new fabrics, colours and optic prints. Chic silhouettes mixed with bold new shapes and textures including sheer silk, perforated leather, the reappearance of neoprene as well as lace and laser cut detailing. The black and white heavy collection included some lovely metallics and a pop of colour with bold mustard yellow. 1970s catwalk legend Pat Cleveland made a rare runway appearance by opening the show with an incredible walk that included prancing, dancing and shoulder twisting – the crowd loved it! Here are my favourite looks and I love that I can actually buy them next spring!

I was lucky enough to go backstage before the Joe Fresh show where I saw models getting primped with sleek low ponytails and bold lips. Designers, Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan of Mackage were winding down after a great show and Canadian fashion royalty Joe Mimran of Joe Fresh and his lovely wife Kimberley Newport-Mimran of Pink Tartan posed for photos with the press. Joe even got cozy with me for a great shot! I love the energy backstage!

Another fabulous day in the tents at David Pecaut Square. My feet are killing me but I’m still looking forward to the last two days! Tonight I’ll enjoy shows from Triarchy, Soia & Kyo, Arthur Mendonca and my friend Rachel Sin! Stay tuned for my Day 4 recap + runway photos and for real time updates, follow me on Twitter!
