Getting dressed for a job interview can be a pretty daunting task. Am I too dressed up or not dressed up enough? When FASHION Magazine asked the Style Panel about job interview style, I went to my wardrobe for something that exudes that “HIRE ME” kind of confidence!
How do you dress appropriately for a job interview? Everyone likes to be stylish, yet professional. What are your tips for balancing the two?
I had no idea how to dress for my first job interview so I went with the standard “white-collar” look – dress pants, a button up shirt and a blazer. I didn’t stand out, I felt awkward and there was absolutely none of my personality in that outfit.
I recently attended an event at Riant Boutique in Toronto (King West) and as soon as I laid eyes on this Mink Pink blouse with big bold polka dots, I had to add it to my wardrobe! I’m a sucker for the hi-low hemline and I’m still loving the buttoned-up collar look, so it’s nice to add some sleeveless options to my closet for spring/summer.
My hot pink Kate Spade bag provided a cheerful pop of colour – the perfect complement to such a cute and playful print. Nothing like pink and polka dots on a sunny spring day!
I styled my favourite new blouse with skinny dark wash blue jeans that I scored at Smart Set for just $35. I love how the cropped length adds a retro flare to my look, especially with a killer pair of heels! My David Dixon gunmetal pumps are sexy and edgy with a classic shape – the studded details actually work really well with the polka dots!
I’ve been looking for a pair of citron jeans for a few weeks so I was thrilled when I spotted them at Ann Taylor! The latest shipment of goodies to hit stores includes cropped jeans in a beautiful variety of fresh spring colours including pastels and floral prints.
Citron is such a cheerful colour for spring that transitions well into summer. You can style it with a wide variety of other colours, but I decided to tap into the monochrome trend for my look!
You don’t have to wear one solid colour to embrace the monochrome trend. When I saw this white blouse with a subtle citron floral print, I knew it was the perfect complement to my jeans.
One of my favourite spring trends has to be the printed pant. I have floral denim, paisley pedal pushers, geo-print trousers and this fun pair of Ikat print harem pants.
What’s IKAT? It’s a tribal print style that lends itself well to summer fashion – I always see lots of ikat print on summer bags, hair accessories and maxi dresses, but I decided to go for it with ikat pants! I’m a big fan of lightweight tapered (or elasticized ankle) trousers for spring, so when I saw this harem style at M for Mendocino I just had to try them on.
I usually shy away from harem pants or “drop-crotch” styles because they have a tendency to over emphasize my hips and bum (or garner strange looks at the office), but this particular pair is only slightly loose in the crotch with subtle pleats that make the harem style a little more dressy.
The black and white print makes it easy to style these ikat harem pants with pretty much anything! I chose to wear a sleeveless black hi-low blouse with metal toe-cap pumps, black and gold accessories and a neon yellow handbag for a pop of colour. Chic neon accessories for spring make it easy to add colour to monochromatic looks or play with colour blocking.
I’m SO excited to see The Great Gatsby this weekend! I’ve been a fan of roaring twenties style for years so I’m thrilled to see the influence the film has made on fashion trends this season. Beads, sequins, fringe, pleats, ruffles, drop waists, glitz and glamour – GREAT Gatsby indeed! When Fashion Magazine asked the Style Panel experts to go Gatsby, I had no trouble taking on the challenge!
The Great Gatsby is coming and twenties style is one of the most commonly referenced trends out there – how do you wear it without looking like you’re going to a costume party?
To pay tribute to this elaborate era and the most anticipated film of the year, I chose a mini cocktail dress in a comfortable shift shape with playful embellishments…
