FNO Recap + Nikki Beach TIFF

*YAWN* What a night! I’m pretty sleepy today but it was worth it! Last night was amazing!

My friend Melissa and I started the night in Yorkville at The Shops at Hazelton Lanes for the FNO Shopping Soiree and while there, I met one of my fashion idols – Jeanne Beker! That’s one off my bucket list! This event was hosted by TFI, TNT Fashion and MasterCard Canada and featured approx. 20 local designers, live music, delicious cocktails and free hair and makeup touch ups!

From there, we popped in to see my friends at Homegrown Boutique where we enjoyed freshly popped popcorn, yummy candies and mingling with some of my favourite local fashion peeps, including designer Emily Woudenberg. I purchase my first helloberry bracelet there too! Love it…can’t believe gimp is making a comeback!

The last stop in Yorkville, was the Holt Renfrew Hot in the City Street Party. It was pretty amazing to see this typically traffic heavy section of Bloor Street shut down for this event – tons of people in the street, fashion videos projected on the building, loud music and free limited edition Holt 175 (Birthday) Coca Cola!

We hopped on the subway and went downtown where our first stop was the eLUXE FNO party at their headquarters on Adelaide. This was a great stop to party and mingle but not so much for shopping. While there was a serious lack of eLUXE goodies, they did have FNO swag and some incredible (yet pricey) jewellery for sale by Rebekah Price. I loved the Photostar booth, the Avion Tequila cocktails, 3 incredible DJ sets and most of all…the chocolate dipped EVERYTHING bar! I am officially addicted to chocolate dipped licorice…thank you eLUXE ;)

After prying ourselves away from the candy table, we hit up Queen West for The Bazaar by Rac Boutique at the historic and beautiful Burroughs Mansion. It was by far the busiest event we’d seen all night and for good reason – dozens of incredible local brands and designers were there with their latest collections as well as discounted past collections. Guests enjoyed complimentary cocktails, beer and more great music.

We also stopped in to REmix Clothing next door where they were hosting another pop-up shop with Sauvage, The Store on Queen, Myles Sexton and others. It was lovely seeing Myles again and he completely flattered me when he said that the dainty variation on his spiked leather rings (smaller stud) reminded him of me! I just had to get one – you’re amazing Myles! Queen West is where it’s at!

Check out my entire FNO Toronto experience from start to finish on Storify and don’t forget to check out FNO Live to see how FNO went down all over the world!

4.5 hours into FNO, we had aching feet, a pretty nice cocktail buzz and a bit of a sugar high too! Perfect timing to head over to our final stop – the Nikki Beach Toronto lounge at The Spoke Club for the TIFF Opening Night Party! For years I’ve enjoyed the buzz around the pop-up Nikki Beach rooftop lounges during TIFF, but last night was my first time experiencing it and HOLY WOW it was crazy! Not gonna lie, I felt pretty special bypassing the line outside to get in – thank you Milka Mili!

Once we got upstairs to The Spoke Club on the 4th floor there was an uncomfortable traffic jam waiting to get to the rooftop, but while we were waiting, Christina Hendricks of Mad Men squeezed by me and smiled! She’s incredibly beautiful and wore her signature red lipstick with a black pant suit. Upstairs at the wood and white decorated Nikki Beach Lounge, we sipped cocktails and rubbed shoulders with the rich and famous – literally – it was so jammed in there! Can’t say I loved the cigarette smoke and felt a little claustrophobic at times, but the music was great and it was fun to experience such a high profile event.

Whew! What a night! I crashed pretty hard when I got home and tonight we’re doing it all over again at Nyood Bar! I’m hosting the event tonight with handbag designer Sneha Varma and I hope to see you there! Click HERE for more information and come out early to avoid lineups – Doors open at 10:30pm.

Such a great month of fashion, film and fun in Toronto!

Local Goodies @ The Spot on Queen

This past weekend was a cool and rainy one in Toronto. Putting aside my plans to hit the beach, I took my umbrella and hit Queen Street West for a little window shopping.

For weeks I’ve been hearing the buzz around a new local design market called The Spot on Queen and this was the perfect opportunity to check it out!

The Spot on Queen is a local design market that runs every weekend, all summer long, giving emerging entrepreneurs and artisans the opportunity to showcase and sell their goods to the public. Located at 627 Queen West (at Bathurst), the pop-up market is located on the mezzanine level of this trendy and newly renovated event venue, but can be accessed through the street level entrance. The main floor is also home to a lovely new café, called Café Arts, so you can enjoy a latte and a light snack while you browse the market and the artwork on display at the Norman Felix Gallery.

I recently met the designer behind Fredrick Prince Jewellery at my VIP Shopping Party at Homegrown Boutique and was very impressed to learn that in addition to her successful jewellery business, the lovely Melissa De Luca also co-founded The Spot on Queen with her partner, Brett.

Toronto is known for some of its bigger art shows, but the competition to showcase is stiff and rental space is too expensive for emerging artisans. The Spot on Queen was born out of such frustrations and offers fair rental fees for vendors and a consistent weekend venue to showcase products and gain exposure in a bustling and trendy hood. Way to go Melissa and Brett – you’re an inspiration!

At The Spot on Queen, you’ll find clothing, jewellery, accessories, handbags, shoes, household items, home decor, art, photography, stationary, vintage goods and more!
I for one was thrilled to see Michelle from Homegrown Boutique accompanied by designer Emily Woudenberg while I was there – always great to see familiar faces! I also really enjoyed the vintage goodies by The Lovely and The Adored Vintage, the delicate sterling silver jewellery by Sea Flower Studios and the beautiful Alpaca throws by Cambie Design. So many great local discoveries in just one visit and the vendors change each weekend so I’m excited to go back for more!

Come by before summer’s out to peruse unique and original items created locally and sold by the artists themselves. You’re guaranteed to discover something you love, meet tons of great people and just by showing up, you’re giving your support to the local entrepreneurs and artisans of our city. Now that’s a great feeling! Enjoy the photos below and go check it out for yourself!

If you want to share your work at The Spot on Queen, review these Vendor Options and email thespotonqueen@gmail.com. They are currently booked for the summer of 2012, but there is a wait list in the event of vendor cancellations.

VIP Shopping Party Recap + Photos

The Dainty Girl VIP Party Shopping Party at Homegrown Boutique was fabulous night! Thanks to everyone who came out to support Dainty Girl and Fresh Canadian Fashion! It was lovely to be surrounded by so many stylish and fun people, sharing the passion for local apparel, jewellery and beauty products. Pink champagne, homemade cake pops and free manis made it an extra special affair ;)

I started the day on Thursday August 9th in my kitchen making French vanilla cake pops decorated by hand with pink and purple icing…so dainty and delicious! I loved sharing my baking with friends and guests, and blushed a little when my pops were dubbed “kitchen miracles” worthy of starting a side business!

I really enjoyed playing dress-up in this stunning silk dress by one of my favourite Canadian designers, Sarah Stevenson. The bold colours are offset by the soft, lightweight fabric and the romantic and feminine hi-low hemline. I felt like a true Dainty Girl in this fun, flirty dress and it was easy to accessorize too! I chose sparkling Swarovski earrings, a multi-strand silver and crystal statement necklace and a bold blue cuff by Ann Taylor along with my favourite Biko Jewellery bracelet and my MK menswear watch. My peeptoe t-strap pumps from Nine West were the perfect match and the NYC Mini Tote by up-and-coming Canadian handbag designer Sneha Varma was the perfect arm candy! Online shop coming soon.

Guests arrived and enjoyed our yummy VIP spread, 20% off everything in-store, makeup by DaLish Cosmetics, complimentary UNITY manicures from Bio Seaweed Gel and one lucky guest even won a Fredrick Prince Jewellery gift basket valued at $150!

I had such a wonderful time chatting with our stylish guests, promoting local fashion and getting pampered on a Thursday night! Thanks again to everyone who came out and special thanks to Homegrown Boutique for giving me this opportunity! I hope we can do this again sometime very soon! Enjoy the photos! xoxo
