Golden Globes: Best, Worst & Trends

As you may have noticed from my outfit post yesterday morning, I got dolled up for a Golden Globes party on Sunday night at Soho House. I had a great time with friends doing our own red carpet commentary and of course…trying to understand Jodie Foster’s speech. I was SO excited to put together my Golden Globes fashion recap yesterday but my day got totally crazy and I didn’t get around to it. So, since I’m late, I decided to not only share my best and worst dressed, but the trends I noted too! Hope that makes up for my tardiness…grab some popcorn, this is a long one!

I had a hard time choosing my favourite red carpet look because there were so many gorgeous gowns, but in a sea of mermaid dresses with sweetheart necklines and  pale hues, Amy Adams hit the mark on all trends. Her blush Marchesa gown fit like a glove and her body looked amazing without over-the-top cleavage or thigh high slits. I love the delicately beaded bodice and the tulle fishtail skirt. Sculpted shoulders, flawless porcelain skin and some sparkly drop earrings were the only accessories she needed! As always Amy’s hair and makeup was natural yet glamourous – love those retro finger waves. She’s such a doll!

Golden Globes

As I was watching the red carpet show, there were a few surprises and a few things I expected to see: Sofia Vergara in another fit and flare, Halle Berry in a sarong, Helena Bonham Carter wearing black and JLo in a body baring number. There were also some notable trends throughout the evening…

Summer Beauty Part 2: Makeup

Categories: Beauty,Makeup
I may be a fashion and beauty blogger, but in the hot summer months, I like to keep my makeup routine as simple, clean and natural as possible!

With the humidity, dirt and dust of summer sticking to our skin and overactive sebaceous glands making us oily, we don’t want to further clog our pores with layers of heavy makeup.

Lightweight makeup and a solid summer skincare regimen will keep you looking fresh and clean all summer long!

This is Part 2 of my two-part summer beauty blog feature, all about MAKEUP! Check out Part 1 on Skincare to get your canvas ready for the pretty palette I’m about to share with you… Continue reading…

Dainty Outfit: Animal Print Collar

I’m really digging collars right now. No longer reserved for corporate male fashion, the buttoned-up look is taking feminine styles and silhouettes to a whole new level! Basic blouses and dresses are brought to life with contrasting and embellished collars and fashionistas everywhere are buttoning up – all the way up – no Saturday Night Fever butterfly collars this season!

When I saw this basic black sheer sleeveless blouse with a fun animal print collar, I immediately pictured it with my coral skinny jeans. I love the way this look flirts with androgyny for a trendy yet comfortable casual Friday look!

I added an edgy spiked necklace under the collar for a little extra “Rawr!” and a solid pop of metal against the basic black blouse. I love the way it came together and I can’t wait to experiment with more collared looks. Stay tuned for my feature on detachable collars – I’ve got a few styles coming in the mail that I can’t wait to share with you!

Dainty Outfit: Summer is NOW!

It’s sweltering hot and humid in Toronto this week, especially today – fitting for the first official day of summer! I decided to keep today’s Dainty Outfit light and airy with a big pop of colour for the kickoff to summer 2012.

I love this super dainty look because it’s suitable for the office, while keeping me cool outdoors. The pleated skirt from Mendocino is an amazing coral-pink colour and the light fabric maintains its shape and doesn’t wrinkle. The cream blouse is from Smart Set and I love the sheer black applique “bib” on top! It’s so eye-catching and pulls in black accessories like my belt, shoes and handbag beautifully!

The pattern on the blouse inspired me to choose braided silver jewellery and a black braided skinny belt. Since the skirt is a little short and school-girlish, I decided not to wear high-heels today and opted for short wedge ankle strap sandals from Nine West. I love the way it came together!

Dainty Outfit: Casual Friday!

As much as I love playing dress up – I love casual Friday’s in the office too! It’s nice to wear some comfy jeans and flats after a week of dresses and heels. Today I am wearing my favourite coral jeans from Jacob with a silky, loose peplum style blouse (also from Jacob). I love the navy blue and white polka dots against the bright coral jeans and neutral accessories. These oxfords from Aldo have become my go-to casual Friday shoe – office appropriate, comfy and stylish! I got them in brown and black!

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you have an amazing weekend and get outside in this beautiful weather!

PS – My wedding photographer Leanna from Lee Weston Photography wore this shirt on my wedding day and every time I wear it I get that warm and fuzzy feeling thinking about my wedding day and the awesome lady that captured it all  :)   xo
