Oscars: Red Carpet Best, Worst & Trends!

Last night I watched the Oscars with my hubby and some fabulous friends of ours at The Soho House in Toronto. It was bittersweet – the highlight of the Hollywood awards season also marks the end of the glam red carpet fashion for a little while. Did the celebs save the best for last?

Voluminous bridal style ball gowns, opulent embellishments, striking beauty and dripping diamonds – the A-list brought their A-game to the Oscars and I loved every minute of it!

Best Dressed: Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture
She finally kicked the pneumonia and she’s radiant! Not that she ever looked bad, but she was absolute perfection last night. Jennifer’s spring 2013 Dior Haute Couture gown takes the fit and flare to epic Oscar proportions with a strapless fitted bodice and an ultra voluminous skirt. The softly rounded bust line fits her to perfection without digging in like many strapless gowns have an unflattering tendency to do. The fabric is luxuriously dreamy with a subtle floral texture in the palest pink colour that accentuated her flawless complexion and statuesque figure.

Jennifer Lawrence is a princess in Dior Haute Couture gown and Chopard jewels

Jennifer accessorized with simple yet dazzling Chopard jewels and a gorgeous Judith Leiber clutch. I LOVE the long necklace worn backwards – such an eye-catching and trendsetting move! She kept her beauty simple with a textured, sun-kissed updo, soft grey smoky eyes and pale pink lips – it reminded me of the look I went for on my wedding day so of course I loved it!

She was the belle of the ball and I’m so happy that she won the Oscar for her incredible role in Silver Linings Playbook! I love her relaxed approach to Hollywood – the press room interview is hilarious and she handled the fall on stage with grace and humour. To the reporter who asked if she was “peaking” at 22 – I don’t think so!

Grammys 2013 Red Carpet Recap

Last night, the world’s hottest music stars hit the red carpet for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. I always look forward to the Grammys in between the Globes and the Oscars; the celebs seem more relaxed and there are always risqué fashion choices to gossip about. This is, after all, the show that brought us JLo’s infamous Versace gown.

BUT – in an effort to minimize “wardrobe malfunctions”, CBS issued an advisory memo that Deadline.com obtained and released online last Wednesday morning. On camera performers and guests were asked to avoid “puffy” bare skin exposure – riiiiiight, because that makes total sense! LOL Personally, I was surprised that the memo didn’t include a plea to avoid wearing raw meat à la Gaga or “The Pope” as an accessory circa Nicki Minaj 2012.

Yes, even Dainty Girl was secretly hoping to see some rebellious outfits, which is why it will come as no surprise that my best dressed pick, while perfectly dainty, included a little stick-it-to-the-man sheer!

Best Dressed: Rihanna
The 24-year-old singer wore a custom red Azzedine Alaia dress, Neil Lane jewelry and Manolo Blahnik shoes – she looked absolutely stunning! I haven’t been a fan of RiRi’s fashion choices over the past few years, but this look took me back to the beautiful Barbadian goddess we all fell in love with in 2005. I love the soft feminine A-line shape with sheer paneling and crossover details on the fitted bodice.

She styled her hair in cascading waves with a warm and subtle golden ombre, which she paired with bold brows and matte red lips. I’m happy to see her with long hair again! I’m only a little bias to the long wavy hairstyles ;)

Glam Holiday Style at Ted Baker

Categories: Fashion

Ted BakerWith the holidays upon us, fashion girls are scrambling to find the perfect festive, yet transitional dress. I usually end up leaning on the stores I know and love, like Zara and Club Monaco, but let’s face it, so does everyone else. This year, I challenged myself to explore other options and I’m so happy I did! I discovered super chic and dainty styles at Pomp & Pageantry, festive holiday frocks at Fresh Collective and most recently, I visited one of the new additions to Yorkdale Shopping Centre: Ted Baker.

Ted Baker has been around for years in the UK, but just arrived in Toronto last month. Known for classic and elegant styles with European quality and charm, I was amazed with the gorgeous variety of holiday styles in-store! Here are a few of my favourite festive looks available at Ted Baker right now…

Ann and Arayata Accessories

I’ve always been drawn to handcrafted and unique accessories that set me apart from the crowd. The right accessories can make the outfit – from jewellery, shoes and handbags, right down to nail polish and lip gloss. I was thrilled to discover Elle Hardware on Queen West; home to a smorgasbord of inspirational accessories, including the latest addition to their repertoire – Ann and Arayata.

Last Friday, Elle Hardware hosted a trunk show to introduce the collection over champagne and nibbles. I had the opportunity to meet Founder and Creative Director Lara Stephenson – and she is one inspiring woman!
