Sneak Peek: Nine West Fall 2013

Categories: Fashion,Fashion,Shoes

Last week my friends at Sherson Group invited me to their Fall/Winter 2013 media preview event. The Sherson family includes Nine West and Enzo Angiolini among others. Even though I’m just getting ready to wear my peeptoe pumps, strappy sandals and espadrilles, I couldn’t resist a sneak peek at some of fall’s hottest shoes! Season after season, Nine West tempts me and lines my shoe racks with high quality shoes in classic and trendy styles.

The fall/winter 2013 preview unveiled collections worth waiting for within a wide variety themes. The shoes and handbags inspired daydreams of my fall wardrobe in April, but the mood boards for each theme really sent me there. I LOVE mood boards!

With ten distinct themes AND a separate “smoking bar” with the fall season’s hottest smoking flats, there were plenty of shoes to fall in love with! I fell head over heels (pun intended) for the bold colours and pointed-toes of the East Meets West collection, the gold details of Gilded Noir, Mad Cat’s fierce yet ladylike leopard print and the oh-so dainty styles of Isn’t She Lovely. Each distinct theme included a few styles I would most definitely add to my collection if I could. Here are some of my faves from the preview, including styles from Nine West and Enzo Angiolini:

Such a beautifully diverse selection of shoes and styles that transition from day-to-night, work to weekend and more! There’s something for everyone and stunning handbags too…

Imagining fall outfits yet? Yeah, me too. And this is just a glimpse at what’s coming out for fall. Lots to look forward to from Nine West and the other Sherson Group brands – any favourites? Leave me a comment!

For now, to get back to that spring state of mind, take inspiration from my Goulding pumps, available at Nine West stores now!

Transitional Style: Winter to Spring

Categories: Fashion

Spring weather is a roller coaster ride in Toronto. We’re eager to go nylon-free in spring dresses, leave the coat at home or wear open-toe shoes with a fresh spring pedicure – but Mother Nature makes us take baby steps. Recently, FASHION Magazine asked Style Panel experts about transitional style:

What are your tips for transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring?

There’s always someone out there in shorts as soon as the temperature hits +1, but the rest of us have to get creative to transition from winter to spring! My go-to look in the winter involves leggings and boots, so on dreary spring days, I stick with that formula and swap the winter sweater for a billowy blouse. Spring is all about colour and you can still pull it off with practical bottoms and boots if the weather calls for it.

For this transitional look, I wore my favourite faux-leather detail leggings and lace-up ankle booties with a floral print blouse and a bold pop of colour. Winter staples to keep me warm and dry with a fresh spring twist! It was a rainy day  when I shot this photo so I decided to wear my hair in a big fat sock bun. I rarely wear my hair up, but I do love the way a collared blouse looks with an updo and I think it’s a fresh look for spring with the right makeup. Since my hair is fairly dramatic, I kept my makeup simple and fresh with punchy red lips.

I can’t wait to wear this blouse with white skinnies and coral sandals when the weather warms up!

If you’re uncertain about winter to spring transitional style, don’t be afraid to employ a little creative layering – you CAN wear that cute new spring dress, just throw on a sweater/blazer and wear practical shoes.  It’s also the perfect time of year to wear a pretty floral dress with edgy moto-boots – I love that combination!

Here’s a transitional look I whipped up on Polyvore to demonstrate what I mean…

Dainty Outfit: Mixing Graphic Prints

Categories: Fashion

I’m a little behind on my Dainty Outfit posts – fashion week madness is upon us! I wore this black and white look to a Nella Bella event a couple of weeks ago. I must admit that I was a little nervous about layering mixed graphic prints, but I’m really happy with the way it turned out!

I’m wearing TWO sleeveless blouses from Smart Set; the bottom layer is a collared button up and the top layer is a peplum – both with different graphic prints. The peplum is really cute on its own, but I think the collar and hi-low hem of the other blouse add a little something special. The print underneath peaks through ever so slightly, adding playful dimension; a lot of people thought it was one blouse! I wore my creation with skinny black dress pants and a cropped waterfall blazer – chic, office appropriate and layered for versatility!

I took the blazer off later that night and it looked cute for cocktails too! My Shop For Jayu necklace was the perfect collar candy and my Nine West boots were stylish yet functional with the rainy weather we had that day in Toronto. I went with a basic black purse that day but I wish I had worn my hot pink Kate Spade bag to go with my pink lips and nails! Ah well…guess I’ll just have to take this look for another spin! Maybe I’ll pop the collar next time…

Mixing graphic prints is uncharted territory for me, but this little ditty gives me confidence to try again…I’m thinking florals and stripes for spring!

What do you think? Would you mix prints? Leave me a comment or tweet @DaintyGirl_TO!

Dainty Outfit: Pink and Polka Dots!

Categories: Fashion

Last week, when it was -15 with the wind chill here in Toronto, I wore an open shoulder pink blouse and a pleated mini skirt with polka dots! You may think I’m crazy, but I had picked out my outfit the night before, realized the frigid temperatures once I woke up and just went with it! Trying to choose a new outfit in the morning can be chaotic and I just didn’t have time for that. I did of course  have time to grab a sweater and warm outerwear for my commuting needs :)

I’ve had these pieces in my closet for over a year, but I’ve never worn them together. At first I thought that the tunic-length of the blouse and the flared pleated mini skirt would result in an unflattering A-line shape, but I love the way it turned out! The length and billowy style of the blouse floated perfectly above the mini skirt and the sheer material allowed the cute little polka dots to peek through! Moo-moo risk averted!

I love the billowy boho-chic shape these pieces created together and the sweetness of pink and polka dots! I opted for silver accessories and contrasted the dainty with my favourite moto boots. I love those unexpected combinations that extend my wardrobe…this one’s a keeper!

What do you think of my pink and polka dots look?

Dainty Outfit: Sweater Dress Season

Categories: Fashion

With the frigid weather we’ve had in Toronto this week, I decided to pull out one of my favourite sweater dresses by Paper People Clothing. It’s super warm and made with reclaimed wool sweaters in purple tones. This dress is a popular style for the brand and it’s available at Fresh Collective in a variety of colour combinations. I love the body contouring shape, flattering fit and office appropriate length.

At -25, I do wish it had long sleeves, but I’m Canadian so I’ve got layering down to an art anyway! With a little snow on the ground and some errands to run after work, I decided to wear my trusty moto-boots for comfort and style with opaque tights. Lastly, I threw on a gun-metal fringe navel duster necklace and my favourite burgundy Mini MAC.

If you’re looking for a cozy sweater dress to get through the rest of the winter season, now’s the right time to buy because they’re all going on sale! The Paper People Clothing F/W 2012 collection has a few styles to choose from and they’re on sale at Fresh Collective too!

I also like these styles spotted around Toronto:
