I like to keep my makeup as natural looking as possible. Sure, there are occasions where I’ll step it up a notch, but most days, my makeup routine consists of a tinted moisturizer, under-eye concealer, mascara, tinted lip balm and brows. When I say “brows”, I mean filling in those pesky sparse areas with a fine tipped brow liner or brow powder. I’m blessed with fairly thick brows and I hardly ever pluck them, but just like most women, I have little gaps where my brows aren’t as full as I’d like them to be. I absolutely love the way filled in, fuller brows frame my face and make my eyes pop – it’s just a time-consuming process and never looks as natural as I’d like it to.

A couple of years ago, I heard about microblading for the first time and I was instantly intrigued by the idea of natural looking semi-permanent brow makeup. I didn’t jump on the idea of getting it done right away, but started following the trend on Instagram and beauty blogs until I built up enough confidence in the procedure to explore it myself. Of course the idea of tattooing my brows was a little intimidating, but the before and after photos really sold me!

One of my favourite local beauty salons, Sugarmoon, recently added microblading to their list of services, and since I was already a fan of their beauty treatments, I decided to visit them for a brow consultation. I booked an appointment with Ann, one of their estheticians who specializes in microblading. Her iPhone has hundreds of before and after photos from happy clients which was really reassuring to me! The consultation took about 30 minutes; Ann answered all of my questions about the microblading procedure (and I had lots) and then spent the remainder of the time designing my perfect brows by drawing the shape with a soft wax pencil. We reiterated the design a couple of times before landing on the desired outcome and then Ann took a bunch of photos for us both to refer back to. By the end of the consultation, I was ready to go through with the microblading procedure and I booked the appointment for two weeks later.

What are you doing tomorrow? Because I’ve got a pretty stellar reason to play hookie! Can’t skip work? What about a little lunch time treat? Perhaps a super happy happy-hour? You don’t want to miss this! To celebrate their 10th birthday, The Ten Spot will be offering FREE quickie pedis, manis and all waxing services from 11am to 7 pm in ALL 18 of their fabulous locations! Weeee!

FreeServicesI was living in the Queen West neighbourhood in Toronto when The Ten Spot opened their first location there. I remember going for a mani-pedi and being so impressed by their “anti-spa” mantra – the quick convenience of a local nail salon with the top quality standards and stringent hygiene of high-end spas. Looking at my gorgeous nails, I was hooked and have been a loyal customer ever since!

I just returned from a weeklong business technology conference in Nashville, Tennessee. As the sole representative for my company at this conference, I needed to do a lot of networking! When I’m meeting people for the first time, I want to leave a positive first impression in every aspect – from my conversational skills to a professional appearance and friendly personality. Since I always greet people with a smile, I want my smile to make an impact – and for that, I turned to the new Colgate* Optic White* Platinum TM/MC High Impact White TM/MC toothpaste.

Canadian High Impact Carton

My friends at Colgate recently sent me some samples of the new Colgate* Optic White* Platinum TM/MC High Impact White TM/MC toothpaste and the Colgate* Optic White* WhiteSeal TM/MC Mouthwash and I’ve been using them together, twice per day for about two weeks. I love how fresh and clean my mouth feels and how my smile simply sparkles!

I’ve been an east-ender for almost 10 years and now that I live closer to the Danforth, there’s so much more to explore! I’ve always heard good things about Allure Body Bar – they’re well recognized for their waxing services. I haven’t ventured into that realm myself yet (thankfully, I just don’t need to), but I visited Allure a few weeks ago to try their lash and brow tinting services.

I love the idea of tinting because it means less makeup! With vacation season in full swing, this is the perfect service to try so you can skip the mascara on the beach or at the pool. Raccoon-eyes and bikinis just don’t mix.
