BB Cream

BB Cream: Found My Fave!

It’s been a while since I started experimenting with various brands, but I’ve finally found the BB cream that’s perfect for me! Over the past few months, I’ve tried six different brands: Clinique, Estee Lauder, Too Faced, Dior, Garnier and Smashbox. Some were too dark for my fair skin tone and some didn’t provide enough coverage. A few months ago, I blogged about Too Faced BB cream, which at the time was my favourite, but I got tired of the built in shimmer. It’s a great BB cream for night time with that little extra illumination, but it’s too much for everyday use. It took me a while to get my hands on a Smashbox sample because it was always sold out! Clearly the most popular brand at the store – I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some!

I finally managed to get a sample a couple of months ago and I haven’t looked back since! Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream with SPF 35 is hands down the best BB cream I’ve tested. Available in five different shades, this multitasking miracle cream moisturizes, primes, perfects, controls oil and protects skin from morning until night. Formulated with emollients and optical pearl pigments, this BB Cream gives skin a natural glow without looking shimmery. It provides instant hydration to maintain moisture and creates a beautiful balanced complexion. It’s ideal for oily complexions like mine with UVA/UVB protection which helps to inhibit oil production and prevents shine throughout the day without the typical chalky matte finish of sunscreen. I LOVE IT!

I consider my skin fairly sensitive and I’ve never had a reaction to this gentle, fragrance-free and dermatologist tested BB cream. I wear it alone most days and combine it with a mineral powder for occasions that call for a little more makeup. On days when I need a little extra spot correction, Smashbox BB cream works seamlessly with my favourite concealer by NARS when I apply the BB cream first and then spot correct with my concealer and a brush.

Highly recommend this BB cream for anyone looking to achieve a flawless complexion with minimal prep time. Smashbox BB cream has made my makeup routine so much easier and my skin loves the additional skincare benefits! It’s a little pricey at $50 CDN, but well worth it and a little goes a long way. Before you commit, you can request a free sample from any Sephora location. Their samples are so generous you’ll be able to try it out for at least a week to see how you like it. Enjoy!

I may be a fashion and beauty blogger, but in the hot summer months, I like to keep my makeup routine as simple, clean and natural as possible!

With the humidity, dirt and dust of summer sticking to our skin and overactive sebaceous glands making us oily, we don’t want to further clog our pores with layers of heavy makeup.

Lightweight makeup and a solid summer skincare regimen will keep you looking fresh and clean all summer long!

This is Part 2 of my two-part summer beauty blog feature, all about MAKEUP! Check out Part 1 on Skincare to get your canvas ready for the pretty palette I’m about to share with you… Continue reading…

BB Creams – Follow Up

Categories: Beauty,Makeup

As promised, I ventured to Sephora for some BB Cream samples last week. I have been so excited to try these unique formulas that combine skincare and makeup! It was a little disappointing because most of the BB Cream Collection advertised online wasn’t available in-store. Some were sold out, some just weren’t available in Canada – I guess that’s the price I pay for being on the cutting edge of beauty! Haha…

The Dr. Jart+ and Clinique versions aren’t available in Canada yet and the Boscia and Smashbox versions were sold out – which only makes me want them more!!! I was able to get my hands on two samples…

What are BB Creams all about?

There is a hot new makeup product on the scene that everyone is buzzing about. I’ve been hearing about BB Creams for months so I finally took to the web to do some research! BB stands for “Blemish Balm” or “Beauty Balm”. Dermatologists initially used it to help soothe and regenerate sensitive skin after laser surgery while also providing good coverage for post-laser redness and blemishes.

Korean cosmetic companies got wind of this miracle cream, adapted the technology and started making their own formulas available to the general public. Fast forward a few years and it’s flooding the shelves here…
