Soapwalla Natural Deodorant Cream

soapwalla_logoI usually take a week or so to test a product before I’ll write about it on my blog, but in this particular case, I love it so much I simply have to share it NOW!

I’ve been looking for an effective natural deodorant for years, but between the organic brands at the drug store and local independent formulas, my hopes were dashed more than once.

Natural deodorants employ oils, waxes and powders which can often result in a sticky, chalky or residual mess. Sadly, no matter how pretty it smells in the tube, I just haven’t found a natural deodorant that keeps me as fresh as those toxic drug store brands.

Until I found Soapwalla Deodorant Cream

I first read about this amazing product on the Fresh Faced (Canadian online beauty shop) blog and when a couple other trusted bloggers reviewed it, I knew I had to give it a try. To avoid duties, I bought mine from Fresh Faced ($12.99), but you can buy direct from Soapwalla too.

The deodorant comes in a small jar and has a frosting-like consistency utilizing superfine vegetable powders, clays and various essential oils to absorb moisture and inhibit bacteria. I put a dime-size amount on my finger and applied it to my underarms like a lotion – a little goes a long way. I immediately noticed how nicely it spread, absorbing quickly without any greasy residue. It dries clear too – no unsightly white pit stains with Soapwalla!

The scent is fresh without being overwhelming, including organic lavender and peppermint oils among others. Bonus points for consistency and fragrance, but the best part is – IT WORKS! I applied it Saturday morning, lazed around the house for a bit, went to the gym for 2 hours and when I got home, I still smelled fresh – and I sweat people! I love that I don’t have to use antiperspirants with harmful chemicals, petroleum, and aluminum compounds to stay fresh and dry. Soapwalla does it all with my health and the environment in mind – 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

I didn’t experience any sensitivity, although some reviewers have reported a slight sting when used after shaving, but this should subside quickly as your body gets used to the new formula. Soapwalla recommends waiting a few hours to apply after shaving if you experience any sensitivity.

This fabulous product and many others are made with love by Founder, Rachel Winard, in her Brooklyn, NY kitchen. I can’t wait to explore other Soapwalla face and body products too! You can purchase directly from their website or from the Fresh Faced website (recommended for those in Canada).

So excited that my deodorant quest is finally over!

Thanks so much for sharing. I have been looking for a natural deodorant for awhile that works as well as the “traditional” stuff. Quick question – does it stain your clothes like the traditional ones do?

Hi Julie! Thanks for reading my review. I haven’t noticed any stains on my clothing! I’m always so frustrated to put on another deodorant that claims to be “clear” and when it dries it’s not. This one stays clear, in my experience. Hope that helps!

I’m glad you like this product too! I’m also a natural deodorant convert now. I recently raved about this one on my blog too:
However I’m starting to find that after a month or so of using it, my underarms get itchy once in a while now. Are you finding this?

    • Nicole January 7, 2013 / 1:54 pm

Hi Helen! Great review on your blog too :) I haven’t been using it long enough to notice any itching, but I hope that doesn’t happen!

I am glad you like this product. I do not. It is not bad, but it not that superior. Just like other natural deodorants. When mixed with my sweat, it stinks. :( But, I do like the body oil. And, I think that Rachel is an awesome woman.

Oh, yeah, my armpits got itchy, too., after 2 or 3 weeks of constant applying.

Hi Sara! Thanks for checking out my blog. Sorry to hear you’re not a fan of the Soapwalla Deodorant Cream…so far so good for me! I hope I don’t experience that itch you speak of. Only time will tell :)

Oooh I’ll have to try this. For a while now I’ve trained myself to go au naturale, but I do keep a stick in my purse in case of emergencies. I’ve yet to find an organic deodarent that I’m satisfied with. Thanks for the recommendation!
