When I visited Forever 21 last week, I stumbled across a trend that I hadn’t seen in such abundance before. Scattered throughout the store, amongst crop tops, graphic tees, chambray shirts and plaid – there was a huge selection of printed satin pants. Everything from wide leg to tapered in fabulous fall colours and graphic prints. I picked up a La Vie Bohemian Trousers in a black and white geo print ($15.80) and styled them two ways for fall…
With a comfortable relaxed fit, drawstring waistband and pockets, these lightweight satin pants feel like pajama bottoms and they’re completely acceptable to wear out of the house! Not sure how you can pull off pajama-chic? Keep reading to see how I styled them two ways for fall.
At first glance, it’s easy to assume that these printed satin pants are for casual occasions only. So, for the first look, I challenged myself to style them for the office!
A tapered leg makes these pants perfect for heels – the first step to dressing them up. While the elasticized waist band may be a little too cozy looking for the office, these pants are high-waisted so it’s easy to find a blouse that you can layer on top. I love the way this cropped sleeveless blouse from Forever 21 falls just above the hip. The gathering at the waist naturally creates volume, so it’s important that your top doesn’t add bulk at the fullest part of the pant.
I find that cropped or hi-low blouses work best with these pants to elongate legs, which is why I added a cropped blazer to finish the look! I love this collarless mustard yellow blazer with rounded edges and angled pockets – the perfect solid fall colour for this neutral printed look.
I wasn’t sure whether the geometric beading on the blouse would conflict with the printed satin pants, but mixing prints is hot right now and I like the way they look together! The hints of silver embellishment make it easy to tie in more metallic with my accessories.
With so much going on with the beading and the printed pants, I skipped the necklace and just wore thin bracelets, a small black quilted leather handbag and silver pointed-to pumps.
This is definitely a look I’d be proud to wear to work. Some offices may be a little conservative for printed satin pants, but use your best judgement.
My second look is all about mod-meets-boho with an outfit that’s perfect for a casual dinner with friends or a day of shopping. It’s little more cozy without sacrificing the chic-factor.
As soon as I saw this fuzzy shag sweater at Forever 21 I simply HAD to pet it! It is quite possibly the softest and coziest sweater I own and it was only $23. I worried that the eyelash knit would shed, but I’ve worn it twice now and haven’t seen one little thread left behind.
The drop shoulders give it a relaxed bat-wing drape and the subtle hi-low hemline works perfectly with my satin printed pants to create shape within a very relaxed look.
This outfit would look great with velvet or suede smoking slippers but I really like the way heels look with these pants. I wore my favourite zip up ankle booties from Ann Taylor and tied it all together with gold-tone accessories. My long spike necklace complements the print on the pants quite nicely if I do say so myself!
Finally, I added a pop of warm fall colour with my burgundy Mini MAC and matching red lips.
So there you have it friends – you CAN rock the pajama look outside of the house! It’s all about choosing the right shape on top and adding elegant accessories. I can’t wait to stock up on more styles for just $15 a pair – let the style experiments continue!
What do you think of the two ways I styled my satin pants? How would you wear them?
