Last week, before heading out for a night of fashion at |FAT|, I stopped in at Ritual for a makeup application with the lovely Diana.
Ritual opened in 2002 as a tanning and nail salon and it’s amazing to see how far they’ve come. They now occupy a much bigger space in King West, just a few doors down from the original location. Staying true to the sleek white and pink decor, they’ve expanded their services and ditched the tanning.
Whether it’s nails, waxing, facials, massage, makeup or hair – they take care of all our beauty rituals under one roof. It’s fun just being in this space, bustling with urban babes getting pampered – beauty multi-tasking at it’s best!
For years, Ritual has been loyal to the best products on the beauty market: Dermalogica, Moroccanoil, Aveda, Kevin Murphy, OPI and CND. With a decade of experience under their belt, it’s no surprise that they’ve launched Beauty by Ritual – complete with makeup application, lessons and their own makeup line. Needless to say, I was really excited for my flirty spring makeover!
My makeup artist, Diana, is also a Manager at Ritual and I can tell that she’s passionate about beauty – her own makeup was flawless and she was wearing one of the new spring lip colours!
She started with my eyes to ensure that any residue was cleaned up afterwards, for flawless face makeup. Taking note of my coral panty hose, fair skin and green eyes, Diana used a warm neutral eyeshadow palette with a hint of coral, gentle eyeliner and black mascara. I usually keep my eye makeup simple, so it was nice to have a little more drama without being overwhelmed.
I’m also a foundation-phobe and since I was already wearing my favourite new BB Cream and mineral powder, Diana worked with that. She gave me subtle contouring with bronzer, a dusting of coral blush and cleaned up around my eyes with perfectly matched concealer.
The finishing touch, and my favourite part, was the hottest new spring colour: Lip Love. It’s a gorgeous, bold coral – high in pigment with the perfect cream gloss finish and a gentle sweet scent. So many bold lip colours this spring, end up feeling dry and build up in the creases and corners of my mouth – but not this one. Ritual lipstick is moisturizing, smooth and kissable with just the right amount of stain that lingers on your lips even after a long day. This is without a doubt my favourite new lipstick!
I’m a tough sell when it comes to makeup application, but Diana at Ritual really impressed me. She listened to my likes and dislikes, educated me on her techniques and gave me a truly beautiful look that I would try again at home. In addition to offering makeup application for $55, Ritual also provides makeup lessons for $65. Bring your favourite products and Diana will teach you her techniques with a mirror so you can try them yourself. You may fall in love with the in-house makeup line – but isn’t it awesome that you can bring your own?!
The Ritual makeup line is made right here in Toronto with Diana directly involved in the formula and colour selection process. They focus on quality products and stunning seasonal and staple colours without bogging us down with too many choices. Sold exclusively at Ritual, you’ll find eye shadow palettes ($39), mineral blush ($18), mineral bronzer ($21), mineral pressed powder foundation ($30), brow palettes ($29), lipstick ($18) and lip gloss ($16). Diana did a great job on your make-up. Your eyes look enhanced but not over done. $55.00 for a quality make-up application is reasonable.
I agree! I don’t like heavy makeup so I really appreciated how accommodating she was and how she walked me through every step. The finished look was definitely more dramatic than I’m used to, but something I can actually see myself trying again for a night out.
