In my fashion loving blogger world, everyone is wearing colourful and printed pants – but in the real world, some women find it difficult to work this trend into their wardrobe. Yesterday, I wore a pretty loud pair of paisley pants to the office and received many compliments and only a few weird looks. One woman I met in the elevator at work summed up how I think many women feel when she said, “I just wrapped my head around coloured denim and now it’s all about printed pants! I don’t know if I can do it.”
And to that I say – YES YOU CAN!
I know that some corporate work places are stuck on neutrals, but many embrace fun colours and playful prints. Who says you can’t look professional wearing something colourful? Not me! I try to inject lots of colour in to my wardrobe every season and even more so in spring/summer.
As soon as I laid eyes on these fun paisley pants at Ann Taylor, I knew that I could style them for work, weekend or a night on the town. They’re trendy yet professional and oh so comfortable in a silky polyester and a relaxed fit. The elasticized hem is so chic too!
The rule of thumb when you’re wearing a loud print is to keep it simple everywhere else. I love mixing prints and making bold style choices when I’m attending fashion events or going out with my friends, but for the office, I try to limit my look to one wild print at a time! The print on these paisley pants is bright fuchsia and anchored with classic navy blue. Since pink is predominant in the pants, I wouldn’t overwhelm the outfit with more pink on top.
I decided to play on the navy blue in the pants and wore them with a navy blue peplum style blouse (also from Ann Taylor). I think it’s an elegant combination that can be worn to the office or a night out. If your office frowns on sleeveless blouses, you can wear a short/long sleeved navy blouse or layer a blazer on top for more versatility!
You could also wear these pretty paisley pants with silver, grey, ivory or white on top – with pants this loud, I think a neutral top is your best bet. For my accessories (shoes, jewellery and clutch), I went with silver and white for a sparkling pop against the darker palette of my outfit.
Here’s another option – I love this navy and silver studded sleeveless blouse and it looks awesome with the paisley pants, especially for a night out with silver heels! To make it office appropriate, I added a long grey boyfriend blazer and voila! It’s a little trendier, but still wearable for those who aren’t confined to the white collar look.
I can’t wait to style my new paisley pants for the weekend with a plain white tee, chic flats, simple jewellery and a fedora. You’re not locked into one style with printed pants – there are so many styling options and many are perfectly suitable for the workplace.
The key is wearing your fun pants with confidence and a smile – get ready for compliments you fashionista you
