Mani Monday: Ombre Nail Trend

Categories: Beauty,Nails
It’s Mani Monday!

I’ve been excited to try the ombre nail trend ever since I saw stylista Lauren Conrad sporting it last year. It took me a while to try it myself since I was caught up in a Gelish nail phase and perhaps too lazy to buy full size colours and guess at the right colour graduation.

But I finally did it…and I love it!

This year, DIY ombre nail sets have been popping up everywhere starting with The New Black sets at Sephora ($24 CAD, $22 USD).

These sets make it easy to achieve the perfect ombre effect and they’re way more affordable than buying full size bottles in each shade. The Shopper’s Drug Mart exclusive beauty brand, Quo recently launched three ombre nail sets in pink, purple and blue for $18 CAD. At such a low price and conveniently available at any SDM location, I went out this weekend to buy a set!

We’ve had such beautiful weather this long weekend, I was feeling the sunny pink set when I saw it. Quo nail polish is made by Orly, so it’s good quality; I love the shape of the mini bottles and the rubberized and textured lid/handles. This ombre effect is light to dark graduation with a different shade on each nail. I think it turned out great! What do you think?

I’d also really like to try the ombre colour graduation within each individual nail using two colours and a sponge. I saw this tutorial in Glamour and it looks pretty easy! I’ll probably just use a light and dark shade from my Quo ombre set to try to it out – just need to get a sponge!

Stay tuned!
