Make Your Own Lip Balm with DaLish!

If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a drawer full of lipstick, lip gloss and lip balms that you’ve collected over the years and rarely use. I often promise myself that I’ll use them before I buy more, but somehow the pile keeps growing! Sure I have a few staples, but I’m always on the lookout for that perfect colour, with a velvety smooth texture, a hint of shine and a yummy scent.

Lip “stuff” is everywhere and while the choices can be overwhelming, the prices are usually so low, we don’t even think twice about grabbing a few more. Wouldn’t it be great if you could make that perfect lip colour with the guidance of a beauty expert? Take ten natural and cruelty-free ingredients, nine customizable colours, six scrumptious flavours, five lovely ladies and a bottle of bubbly – and you have a DaLish Cosmetics class!

I’ve been a fan of DaLish Cosmetics for a while and recently had the pleasure of spending time with Founder & Creator Melanie Cruickshank at the One of a Kind Show and the Private Shopping Sale with Krystle Lee back in April. Melanie is passionate about cosmetics and simplifying the beauty routine for real women to “5 minutes or less”. Not only has she created an amazing line of products from makeup and skincare, to body and baby – but she’s also a professional makeup artist with an impressive client list and still finds time to share her passion with other beauty addicts at her “make your own cheek/lip balm” classes!

I was thrilled to participate in her latest class last week and the first one ever held in her home (such a nice touch). Melanie welcomed a small group of ladies with bubbly and nibbles and walked us through the entire process from melting the wax to choosing pigment and flavour.

After melting down the basic ingredients (wax and oils), we were each given a ration of the base in a glass with a stir stick. The real fun started as we mixed various mica pigments and flavours to create truly personalized colours!

We all crowded around the mirror testing colours and sharing tips to achieve that perfect match for our skin tone with guidance from Melanie every step of the way. I combined various pigments to create two colours just for me – a bronzed berry shade with chocolate/raspberry flavouring and a soft coral pink with chocolate/mint flavouring – they’re beautiful and DaLish-ious! As a bonus, we each got to choose one of our classmates colours to take home too! A little wax goes a long way and I can wear these on my cheeks too!

Whenever I daydreamed about making my own makeup, I always pictured this big, messy production with unattainable commercial ingredients, but DaLish classes keep it simple, natural, affordable and fun! It was a fabulous Tuesday evening with five great gals and totally worth the $35 price tag considering I’d easily spend more than that on three products at Sephora minus the food and fun! Sign up for the DaLish Newsletter or follow on Twitter for updates on future events and classes. You can even book DaLish for private occasions like birthdays, bridal showers, bachelorette parties or just as the prelude to a girl’s night out! Imagine making your own hot red lipstick before a night on the town with your best gals – fun! I’m already thinking of events I can bring Melanie to…

Thanks again Melanie and DaLish Cosmetics for hosting such a wonderful evening and for giving me the tools to make that perfect lip colour. I’ve been using these balms religiously ever since…I think it’s time to ditch the dusty lip gloss drawer ;)

It was great meeting you Sarah, Jasmine and Susana – I hope you’re loving your creations as much as I am and I’m sure I’ll be seeing you at future DaLish events! xoxo
