Summer is finally here and with that comes tons of fun in the sun! For many urbanites, it means leaving the city behind for sun-filled weekends at the cottage. When FASHION Magazine asked the Style Panel experts about summer cottage style, I relished the opportunity to kick off my heels in favour of a more laid back look…
With the long weekend coming up, there’s no better time to showcase some fashionable yet relaxed looks. How do you retain summer style at the cottage?
Cottage style is all about comfort – an outfit you can throw on between the beach, the BBQ and the bonfire without breaking a sweat!
On a warm summer day, I always reach for something lightweight with a relaxed fit and 99% of the time, it’s a breezy summer dress. Casual dresses make it so easy to look stylish without sacrificing comfort on a hot day and you can always throw on a sweater, shawl or jacket in the evening if you need to.
I love this nautical striped maxi dress. The basic stretch jersey is simple and cozy while chic details like racer back straps, asymmetrical seams (in the back) and a subtle hi-low hemline keep it stylish for the city or the cottage. I simply swap my heels for a cute pair of flat sandals and I’m ready to hit the road!
I accessorized my cottage-chic look with pops of fresh turquoise, a statement necklace and a metallic drawstring satchel – the perfect bag for my cottage essentials!
Last but definitely not least, I finished my summer cottage look with sunscreen, sunglasses and a fedora. Never underestimate the importance of sun protection people!
I always start my beauty routine with sunscreen (no less than SPF 30 for this fair lady). You can buy primers, foundations, tinted moisturizers or BB creams in oil-free formulas with SPF 15-30 for the summer. Check out my summer beauty SKINCARE and MAKEUP tips for more.
What do you think of my summer cottage style? I’ll tell you a secret…it’s not as chic when it’s raining! Can you say Lazypants?!
